Apparently, Avril Lavigne, the skater grrrl rocker turned fashion plate, wants to try her hand at acting. She says she is bored of singing and is ready for a new challenge. “I’ve had a singing career for five years. I’m ready to try out new stuff and have some fun.”
Maybe she caught the acting bug while providing one of the voices in the new animated movie Over The Hedge.
She also added, “I like more serious roles. I can see myself in something like Girl, Interrupted. I would enjoy doing a film on the darker side, something serious with depth. I’m good at expressing myself and getting all my emotions out.”
Well, I wish her luck. It’s always been hit or miss with me when it comes to musicians trying to act or actors trying to be musicians. But, there are always exceptions, so I’ll guess I’ll have to just wait and see.
But, I have to say, I absolutely love this Beetlejuice dress she wore to Cannes…

She hasn’t really had much of a singing career for much of those 5 years.

Hi,
I have an Avril Lavigne blog (I also live in the napanee area like she did) and I have to comment about the other person’s comment here…
In fact Avril *has* had a great singing career! Check out how many CDs she’s sold and then tell me she hasn’t had much of a career – she was even chosen among many other singers to represent Canada at the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics!
I think the person who wrote the post here has a better attitude – to wait and see how Avril does. I think she has been smart to begin acting by taking VERY small roles at first to see how she likes it and to learn a little bit about acting and movies before trying for larger roles.
Other than Over the Hedge, where she did the voice of a possum, she also has a very small role in “The Flock” with Richard Gere and a larger role in “Fast Food Nation” which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
As far as her quitting singing to only act, I saw the news reports too and I don’t think Avril actually said anywhere that she would quit. I think the news sites are trying to have more exciting headlines by saying that, whether it’s true or not.
I wrote a blog entry about that just last week, and I will update it if I see anywhere that Avril says she will definitely quit acting…

Courtney, thanks for your comments. I certainly learned a few things about Avril Lavigne that I did not know before.
And SJS, you are sensational =)!
